Fan art in Artist Alley?

Yes! Fandom is what a comic con is all about!
Nope. Draw your own books or do art of characters that you actually work on. Stop mooching off of the big two.
Get a life, nerd.

The first thing I do a comic convention is walk through artist alley. I don't stop, I just take note of who is there, and where I want to stop later. I also note who does commissions, their prices, and if I want to take a closer look at that. (My suggestion to all artists taking commissions: Make that sign BIG and prominent. Examples are great.)
Fan art is most welcome -- it'll probably catch my eye and make me look at things. Humor is great too, or characters in interesting groupings.
But then I'm also looking for who has their own book/GN for sale, and I tend to be very liberal at a convention on what I buy. If I remotely think I'll like the book, I'll buy it. (I'm a bit more discriminating at my local comic store, but I still grade easier on independent comics, as I want to encourage those.)
