YES! I agree completely! I still watch at least one episode of YJ per week. Once I find out who I have to kill to get a new season, that sucker is toast. Hell, I'd settle for a YJ direct to dvd movie! IS THAT SO MUCH TO ASK, DC?!?
It's very small consolation but the new dc movie JL War isn't so bad, but it doesn't have the long well developed character arcs which YJ had. I'm one of those people who is well and truly pissed the hell off that this cool show got taken off the air! The guy behind YJ, Greg Weisman, also made Spectacular Spider-Man which was cancelled for the craptacular Ultimate Spider-Man, so the people in charge clearly haven't got a clue!
Is it? I confess, I haven't seen any of the episodes. The cg animation is strange and off-putting to me, which is why I never really watched Green Lantern. But then again, I heard that one was really good too, so maybe I'll give them both a chance.
Green Lantern:TAS was the DiniVerse in 3D; Compare it to the original Justice League opening -- the epic orchestral one, not the ADHD electric guitar theme. Hated that second one.
Beware the Batman's style is a 3D version of the Justice League: The New Frontier movie. I like both styles, but like BtB's style more. Not sure if this is because I like Batman more than GL, but there it is.
GL:TAS had the character depth of Superman:TAS with the scale and story-type of Justice League Unlimited. I'd give it an A- overal. Beware the Batman is B:TAS with more serial storytelling. I'd give it a solid B+ so far.
Agreed. A Batman show without The Joker? Blegh. I also don't particularly care for the new "super cheap CG" trend that's going through animation right now. Like the GL animated show. I just hated the way it looked, especially up against the AMAZING look of Young Justice.
Props for your icon, btw. Titan A.E. is one of my favorites.
It's not the CGI I'm not liking, I mean some of my favorite animated movies like the Toy Story trilogy, or The Incredibles are in CGI. The things I really don't like about Beware the Batman is how there won't be any Classic villains like The Joker, or the Penguin. I mean that's like making a Spider-Man cartoon without Green Goblin or Doc Ock. The next thing is how Alfred will be carrying guns which is very out of character for him. That's like making Jarvis a killer robot. And yeah Titan A.E. is definitely Bluth, and Goldman's most underrated film.
Oh yeah, I've got nothing against CGI in itself. My favorite animated movie of all time is Tangled, followed closely by How to Train Your Dragon. I just don't like cheaply done CGI. It's something that you've got to put time and a little money into, or else it just doesn't look good.
And I totally agree about the bad guys. A Superman cartoon needs Lex Luthor, an X-men cartoon needs Magneto, and a Batman cartoon needs The Joker. It's fine to highlight the smaller villains sometimes, but you can't just ignore the big guns.
yeah, i aint gonna bother watching that garbage. i mean its not just the looks, its the bs reasons. like spiderman, Avengers and TMNT, they cancel a good batman show...for another batman show. but giving how much marvel do this the most i almost take what i said back.
You should see some of the stuff Luciano did for the Green Lantern TAS comic for DC. Way better looking than the TV show. Honestly, I don't think the technology is there for CGI animation on TV. You just can't do it right with the smaller budget. There have been such huge strides in hand drawn animation in the last few years as well, it sucks that it's being abandoned.
Totally agree. It's also not the budget, but the time constraint as well. Amazing tv shows with hand drawn animation is still out there. Adventure Time, Ultimate SpiderMan, Avengers Assemble. Great shows with great animation. I wish DC would stop trying to experiment and go with what they know works. All of their straight to DVD animated movies have all been phenomenal. Batman: Year One, Superman vs. the Elite, Justice League: Doom. All hand drawn and incredibly well done. I'm stoked for The Return of the Dark Knight: part one coming out later this year. They have top sales with that but can't they figure out to transfer that success into their tv department?
This is incredible! I love the colors, and the whole thing is just beautiful! Not sure what I think of the new TV show. I don't like the CGI, and I loved TAS and The Batman, so I'm not sure. I am looking forward to Professor Pyg though.
Is Professor Pyg a recent villain? I've never heard of him. I do know, however, that Batman needs his Joker. It's like saying "We'll have an X-men show without Magneto" or "let's do Superman without Lex Luther". No good can come of it.
